Hollywood's Private Club
You Can't Get Into Unless…
(…you qualify for this one-of-a-kind opportunity)
"You'll find out how your film, your dream, your script, your concept, your vision and even talent is not enough without this ONE KEY ingredient!"
From: Joel G. Block Date:
Dear Filmmaking Friend,
This is totally unfair!
Why is it that extremely talented people with red-hot desire and a burning vision and creativity seeping out of their pores are starving and struggling to get their movies made – when other people strike up deals seemingly from nowhere?
It’s not fair!
What do they know that you don’t know? WHO do they know that you don’t know?
There's one Golden KEY I've discovered that makes all the difference in the world to make your Hollywood Dream real.
This key is so vital that it's important BEFORE you even start writing your script! I'm not kidding. There are only…
Three Ways Into Hollywood
Have you ever stopped to think how many real ways there are to break into Hollywood and live your dream?
Here is what I've seen come up time and again. You are…
• Born into it.
• Luckily discovered or…
• You independently do it yourself.
Here's a brief look at those three ways in:
1. What doNicolas Cage, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tori Spelling, Sofia Coppola, Angelina Jolie, Drew Barrymore and Jason Reitman have in common?
They are cousins, sons or daughters of very successful Hollywood insiders.
If you're family, you qualify, and I wish you all the best. Talent alone will be your friend here, especially since you're already INSIDE.
2. Luckily discovered are the few, and I mean literally "two or three people" a YEAR who make it by sheer happenstance — a few lucky breaks, they get noticed, the stars align, and a star is born.
Harrison Ford, Brad Pitt, Will Smith, Halle Berry, Hillary Swank, and Dakota Fanning, among others, all qualify in this way into Hollywood. But again, we're talking about two or three a YEAR who become famous doing what they love on film!
Compared with the millions trying to get in, you'll see your chances are good you'll get struck by lightning, long before you get lucky enough to "make it" in Hollywood.
Now, I know I've focused mostly on ACTORS in my examples because they are just more visible in the public eye.
Equally, however, there are many writers, directors, cinematographers, and producers, who have all qualified breaking into Hollywood through family connections or got their lucky break.
These first two ways in are like taking a roll of the dice. No, wait! It's worse than that because the odds of you striking fortune and fame in Hollywood, counting on these two methods, is like betting your last dollar on the lottery and hoping for the best!
Taking slim-to-no chances with your career, is not a strategy.
3. Being independent means you can follow in the footsteps of Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Tyler Perry, and Christopher Nolan.
These folks were no-name actors, writers, directors, and producers (some of them ALL FOUR at the same time!) who started with a Hollywood dream and broke through to success, fame and fortune with a clear strategy and plan to do so.
Why You Want NEED Fame, Fortune and Money
I'll never forget what billionaire filmmaker, George Lucas, once said about doing what you love in Hollywood…
"…I'm caught in this world where I'm an entertainer. A movie is a big deal. You either have to have unlimited resources or you have to make [mainstream commercial] movies for an audience. The movies that are the most interesting don't even make a million dollars. A million dollars means what? That maybe a couple of hundred thousand people saw it."
When someone like George Lucas says, "You either have to have unlimited resources or you have to make movies for an audience…" I pay attention.
The greatest takeaway from that quoted interview he did, is that if you want to live your Hollywood dream, see your film in theaters or on the shelves of Blockbuster®, and utilize your talent to the fullest extent, you need fame, fortune and money to make that happen.
Why?
For one reason only: to make the films you REALLY want to make!
Quentin Tarantino knows this all too well…starting out as a video store clerk, he was a movie-watching fanatic! He oozed movies. He wrote scripts. He wanted to direct.
Tarantino did the wrong thing first. He lost control of one of his first scripts. It was taken and made without ANY credit to him…and he vowed to NEVER let that happen again!
What did he do?
He wrote another one: Reservoir Dogs. He had a producing partner friend secure the financing for this script by attaching a well-known actor, Harvey Keitel, and was able to raise $1.5 million to produce this film.
This launched Tarantino's career!
And, of course, he's not alone in becoming a producer in his first successful work. Spike Lee, Robert Rodriguez, Tyler Perry, Christopher Nolan, and many others, all produced their first successes that got them INSIDE Hollywood.
This is the Golden Key
So how do you get in? Where do you start?
Answer: Follow the money!
Just back from Sundance in Utah, two of my good friends told me the overall consensus was "it's getting harder and harder for independent filmmakers to get money to make their films."
I'm hearing this a lot lately…
Last September the bottom dropped out of Wall St. for what became the largest single-day point drop in the Dow Jones on that fateful Black Monday that got investors nervous and gun shy.
Since then, we've seen government bailouts for Wall St., the automotive industry, the banking world and other "relief" from bad investments and poorly run corporations.
Everyone's running scared and nervous, especially over money.
HOWEVER…
…from where I sit, the weather is just fine. Clear skies. Money is flowing. Deals are being made. Movies are still being churned out at an unprecedented rate by both studios and indies alike. What makes THEM different? Do they know something you don't?
In fact:
• 2008 saw Hollywood have a record box office year both domestically and overseas
• Indie studios also saw record releases and box office numbers in 2008
• Investors are looking for even MORE film projects for their money to flow into in 2009 and…
• January 2009 saw over $1 billion in ticket sales, making it the biggest January box office EVER!
The question is…
Will Money Flow To You?
It would be easy to just give in to the NUMBER one question I get asked literally on a DAILY basis… Know what it is?
Before I tell you, I want you to know the kind of activity going on all around you…
• Harvey Weinstein of The Weinstein Company recently secured $285 million for movies to be released through his company
• Mickey Rourke's "The Wrestler" — which revived his career — was independently financed
• Danny Glover's movie "Trouble the Water", which was nominated for an Oscar® for Best Doc, was also financially-facilitated through this "Money Club".
• Julia Pierrepont launched a new mini-major production partnership with financial backing of $300 million and a co-production and distribution guarantee with Warner Brothers
I could go on and on but…
Here's The Big Secret
There are basically only three ways to get your film financed: 1) Studios and Production companies, 2) Hedge Funds, 3) Private and wealthy individuals
How many of them do you know personally? Because in this business (as in life), success doesn't necessarily come from what you know, but who you know. With the right connections, the right contacts, the right kind of "insider", you can get anything you need…
…including the funding you need for your film production to turn that Hollywood dream into a reality.
But unfortunately, like many people, you don't have an "in" yet and that's what makes this opportunity so extraordinary. You now have the opportunity to join the ranks of those who get the results you seek.
A bold statement it may be. But let me share a bit of the results our “insiders” have gotten to date. They have…
• Financed 10's of millions of dollars for indie films.
• Obtained foreign sales deals and studio financing.
• Produced more than 280 original movies.
• Created the business plan for The Blair Witch Project (the most successful no-name independent movie in history).
• Accessed "soft money".
• Sold a film library for $5.3 Billion to Disney/ABC.
• Generated over $2 Billion in worldwide box office and sales.
• And so much more!
So let me first introduce you to our Hollywood Insiders who can pave the way to your filmmaking success THIS YEAR!
Lance H. Robbins has served as Executive Producer/Producer on more than 280 movies for network television, cable, and video, as well as and hundreds of live action series episodes. He was the primary force behind the creation and acquisition of the SABAN ENTERTAINMENT and FOX FAMILY CHANNEL libraries which sold to ABC/DISNEY for $5.3 billion in 2001.
Remaining under contract with ABC/DISNEY until 2003, he then re-established the ROBBINS ENTERTAINMENT GROUP as a full service production, financing and distribution company, Since then he has produced and has in development more than 25 projects covering all aspects of television, broadband, mobile and internet, including animation, made-for-cable movies, live action teen and reality series, and so much more…

As Joel says, "Studios are still financing and private equity is still there."

Now these Insiders are just a handful of key people who can get you started in your film career to ultimately lead you to the money you seek.
Remember the number ONE question I get asked on a DAILY basis that I mentioned to you earlier? It goes like this: "This is great Joel but…
"Can't You Just Introduce Me To Your Money People?"
Sure I can. But why would I do that? Remember, these are business people, associates and even friends of mine. There's a certain way to approach them, a certain way to dialogue with them, a certain way to introduce them to a potential investment.
Because that's what this is…an investment!
These investors trust me to weed out the dreamers from the legit players. Not only is their time valuable but I've got my own reputation on the line every time I introduce someone or a single business deal to them.
Just think with me here for a moment…
What if I gave out my rolodex to anyone who asked for it? Many would come. Most (almost all) would be sorely disappointed. Would you know what to say? What to have in hand? How to speak the language? It sounds funny but every business has its own language.
"It's all Greek to me" as the old saying goes. But unless you speak Greek fluently, sorry… you're a foreigner!
And even more so, the more I give out my rolodex, the less impact and trust I would have with my wealthy friends in the future, as more and more people or projects are found unworthy! I'm not trying to burst your bubble here. Just pointing out the reality of my world.
And I understand. You just want to make movies. You're creative. You can write, cast, direct, shoot, act, even edit your film, but you need a producer...someone who can secure the financing, keep things on budget on time and get it distributed into theaters, DVD, TV, foreign territories, cable, satellite, airlines and more.
Why do you need this kind of help? So investors (executive producers in most cases) can get their money back, plus make a profit. That's why Hollywood is called show "business" and not show "art", even though it is.
Okay, I'm getting all worked up here and I almost forgot… I didn't even introduce myself to you! My apologies.
Let Me Introduce Myself
My name is Joel G. Block. I'm a venture capitalist, financial strategist, money growth accelerator, and have been called a "serial entrepreneur." I've built several companies that have been successfully sold, and have a rolodex that most people would kill for.
Hollywood is my backyard. I play, connect, and frequently enjoy the company of many Hollywood insiders.
Just the other day I had meeting with the principals of a movie distribution company that offered to look at any deal that I believe merits their consideration, as a "first look."
What that means is that after you work with my insider friends and get the financing you need, you “could” be introduced to this VERY WELL KNOWN distribution company to land your film in the theaters!
“Hollywood is a fortress and they're trying to keep you out…”
"[Hollywood] is a fortress and they’re trying to keep you out, basically because…why do you want more people in there competing for those jobs. So the gates are closed, the walls are manned, and they’re trying to throw hot oil on you.
"And you’re trying to get in there somehow, maybe a secret tunnel or bashing down the front gate, who knows? But the hardest part of the career, and it’s tough to sustain a career for a long time…the hardest part is getting in, because you not only have to do something that lets you get over the wall, under the wall or around the wall, but you have to keep at it when everyone's saying you're crazy. And when you are sure you're crazy. And when you just haven’t had any encouragement…
"[And] tomorrow I gotta go back to my job and I don’t like my job…and it can go on for years, and you know it’s funny when you talk about it this way. But it’s not funny when you wake up and you know you’re going to [a job you hate]."
Lawrence Kasdan (Writer/Director)
To give you an idea of the reality of Hollywood, here's what Screenwriter-Director Lawrence Kasdan of Body Heat, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Return of the Jedi, The Big Chill, Silverado, The Bodyguard, Wyatt Earp, and French Kiss, among others, had to say… →
It's time for you to scale the walls, turn your script into a movie and get the distribution your movie deserves!
So, here's what I'm doing…
I'm hosting a truly one-of-a-kind series! As you know, getting INSIDE Hollywood is the hardest part, but especially when you're trying to get your script or idea funded, whether it be studio financing or private funding.
And this is EXACTLY where most filmmakers fumble the ball! That's why we created this series…to show you exactly the steps you need to take to get the financing you need to make your film.
Over four weeks the "Hollywood Dream Team" are going to expose every detail on how you go from struggling filmmaker with an idea or script, to attracting the money you need to get your film made and distributed.
Get The MONEY You Need
Here is what you'll be learning through a series of LIVE tele-training calls from those very same Hollywood Insiders featured above…
• How to break down the walls of Hollywood and get "inside".
• 3 ways to get through your NUMBER 1 barrier to get inside the studios.
• The art of getting studio funding vs. private equity financing for your film.
• How to get all the funds you need the way "insiders" do.
• What a sound business plan looks like to maximize your chance to secure financing.
• The insiders scoop on getting financing secured through pre-distribution deals and working with the mini-majors.
• The art of accessing "soft money" and tax incentive programs.
• Show you exactly how to approach "money" and get access.
• Know how to pitch to money people directly.
• How to work directly with sales agents for co-production.
• And so much more…
WARNING: Money Isn't Enough
With all this "money" talk - wearing the producer's cap - and knowing without money, your vision, your Hollywood dream won't become real…I must warn you…
If I didn't show you this major hurdle of what is also blocking your success, I would be remiss in my duty as creator of this private money club.
What good is having the money you need to produce your film, your concept, your vision, your Hollywood dream, without having a way to distribute it?
Distribution is what separates those who succeed vs. those who fall again and again in this business of Hollywood.
But how do you get it? If you're like most, you'll go the route of the film festival circus. And a "circus" it is!
I mean absolutely no disrespect to film festival goers. Film festivals have become a growing entity unto itself, where true film lovers and future successful filmmakers gather to show off their work, in hopes of fame and fortune to do more of what they love.
But here's the thing…
There over 3,000 film festivals in the world. And more being added each year! Which ones do you enter?
There are probably only 20 worth really entering, including Cannes, Sundance, and Toronto. Now, let's take Sundance last year alone…
Sundance 2008
• 3,624 features submitted.
• Only 122 accepted.
• Only 20 distribution deals.
• Only 13 no-name deals.
That means about one-half of 1% (0.005) EVER got distribution, never mind actually making their money back!
As a producer (investor), this is a very risky deal. The odds are stacked way against you.
No wonder it was "quiet" at Sundance this year…
What if you were given distribution BEFORE you even secured the money?
Do Business With Those 'I' Do Business With
What if I were to not only show you what it takes to get the money you need, but even OPEN up my rolodex and personally introduce you to these money AND distribution people?
"Wait a minute Joel! You said you wouldn't introduce me to your money people!"
You're right, I did. But that was BEFORE you had the chance to be mentored and coached by our "insiders". Once you graduate from our program, you will be armed with the tools, the strategies, and the language to communicate most effectively.
Then and only then, would I feel comfortable introducing you to "money" and a potential distribution deal.
As Gordon Gekko said in the Oscar®-winning movie Wall Street, "If you're not inside, you're outside."
Which is it going to be?
But I don't want you to take my word for it. Here are just some of the results others have gotten from working with our "insiders"…
"[This mystery man] has quickly become one of my most coveted assets when it comes to brainstorming, planning or just getting things done. He has always made time to help me even when there was nothing in it for him. I greatly appreciate my association and friendship with him, and HIGHLY recommend this man as he continually sets the bar higher for me and for himself."
- J.W. Najarian, Principal, Emerald Bay Investments, LLC
"Thanks to [this mystery man], both of my business ventures increased their profitability by more than 50% in less than 6 months. Working with him is one of the smartest business decisions I've ever made."
- Monroe Mann
"An excellent, insightful guide to attracting financing for indie films. Louise Levison takes a sane, balanced approach to research, comparables and projections, achieving honest outlooks in business plans that are accurate and convincing to equity investors. An important tool for filmmakers and producers seeking innovative financing models."
- Danny Glover, Actor/Director/Producer
"Need money for a movie? Here’s the road map every indie filmmaker needs to find it. It worked for me!"
- Paul Sirmons, Director/Producer, The First of May
"Joel Block is a gold mine of ideas. The first thing you will notice when working with Joel is that he is exceptionally intuitive about people and money. He has a knack for seeing the big picture of what your business might become and expertly helps you to design plans to ensure the quickest route to success. Entrepreneurs are usually in a class all by themselves, with very few mentors or coaches. Having Joel Block on your team is like having an Olympic trainer prime you for unlimited success."
"Not only is Joel intelligent but also as a communicator he is as bright as the sun. One of the biggest ways Joel has helped me personally is with my communication skills. He has shown me the way to effectively magnetize sales and investors to our business in a big way. Listen to Joel. What he has to say about your business will align you with success faster than you can imagine! He is the difference that makes the difference. Just remember one thing. Joel Block = Money."
